1st Blog Post

So here I am finally writing my first blog post, after talking about it for years. I am hopeful that this will be a therapeutic outlet for me as a mother, that it will be a timeline of our journey as a family, and serve as a memory scrapbook for my kiddos when they are older.

In less than 2 weeks we will be embarking on a big journey. We will be traveling to Omaha, Nebraska to receive treatment at the Munroe Meyer Institute, which is part of the University of Nebraska. We will be admitted into an 8 week intensive feeding program for our son, Sebastian. Sebastian is 3.5 years old, and has struggled with eating his whole life.

He survived on pureed baby foods until he was 18 months old. With the help of an occupational therapist, we started to introduce some very simple solid foods, and he was somewhat successful in that endeavor. However, he never acquired more than a handful of foods that he would willingly eat at any given time.

Back in October of 2016, he was ill and began to regress and started to refuse foods he was once willing to eat. He went approximately 4 months with no "real" food and survived on liquids, such as Pediasure, It was terrifying and heartbreaking as a mother to watch this. The worrying never stopped....was he hungry? would he ever eat? We realized then, that this could not go on any longer, and our doctor had informed us that the next step would be a feeding tube....which I refused to accept (at least not as our first line of defense).

Which brings us to now.....I researched as many different facilities in the US as possible that offer this type of intensive feeding program. Unfortunately, there are not very many to choose from and the waiting lists are long. Finally, we were able to reserve our spot at Munroe-Meyer after lots of careful consideration and weighing our options.

Needless to say, we are nervous, scared, excited, anxious, but mostly HOPEFUL! We have put this in Gods hands, and we know that he will take care of our precious Sebastian.

If you will please pray for us during this difficult time, we would be forever grateful.
